What an extra star costs in Paris

What the figure is. The cheapest room available at each hotel, per night, for two adults sharing one room — then the middle value across 183 Paris hotels. Half cost more, half cost less.
Grouped by star rating because mixing them measures the wrong thing. Lumped together, our London figure came out at $477 a night — true of our list, and misleading about London, because far more of the hotels we can sell there are four-star than budget.
From our own price checks, not from what visitors searched for. We check prices on a schedule that does not care which hotels are popular. Counting searches instead would describe our own visitors and call it the market.
Each hotel counts once, however many times we checked it — otherwise whichever properties our queue happened to revisit would drag the number around.
