Hotels in Prague
One of the best value-for-standard markets in Europe, with a historic centre small enough to cross on foot.
Prague delivers more hotel for the money than almost any other major European capital. A four-star room in a central, historic building costs what a mid-range chain would elsewhere, and the standard of the buildings themselves is high because so much of the old city survived intact.
The centre is compact and almost entirely walkable, split by the river into the old town on one bank and the castle district on the other. Trams cover everything else and run late. Very few visitors need to worry about transport at all, which changes the calculation about where to book.
Demand is concentrated: the run-up to Christmas, New Year and the warm months are expensive by local standards, and the shoulder seasons are conspicuously cheap. The city is also a well-established stag and hen destination, which is worth factoring into which street you book on for a quiet stay.
Where to stay in Prague
The area you book in changes the price and the trip more than the star rating does.
The old town
The historic core, walkable to everything, and the busiest part of the city at all hours. Highest prices by local standards, which are still moderate, and the most character. Some streets are noticeably loud at night.
The castle side and the lesser quarter
Across the river below the castle — quieter, greener and prettier, with a short walk over a bridge into the old town. Fewer restaurants at night, and hills.
The new town and around the main station
Larger, more modern hotels with full-size rooms and the best transport links, a few minutes' walk or one tram stop from the historic centre. The value choice.
Stay near
Most people pick a hotel by what they want to be next to. Each of these searches Prague for stays around that spot.

Prague: common questions
Is Prague good value for hotels?
Unusually so. Standards are high because much of the historic building stock survived and has been converted, and prices remain well below western European capitals for an equivalent central room.
Which side of the river should I stay on in Prague?
The old town side if you want restaurants, nightlife and the shortest walks. The castle side if you want quiet and views and do not mind crossing a bridge and climbing a hill to get home.
When are hotels in Prague most expensive?
The Christmas market period and New Year, followed by the warm summer months. Late autumn and the depths of winter after the holidays are markedly cheaper, and the difference is large enough to be worth shifting dates for.
Do I need to worry about noise when booking in Prague?
On a few specific streets in the old town, yes. The city is a long-established stag and hen destination and some blocks are genuinely loud until the early hours. If you want a quiet stay, the castle side of the river or the new town are safer choices than the streets immediately around the main square.
